On the night of April 27, the fire sprinkler system at Fond du Lac marine propulsion manufacturer, Mercury Marine, continued its record of success in suppressing fires by controlling a fire in a dust collector until fire crews arrived. Due to the quick response of the fire sprinkler system, no one was injured in the fire.
“According to our records, this was the third time in three years that the fire sprinkler system prevented a potentially devastating and costly fire for the business,” says Marty King, a former fire official and current state coordinator for the nonprofit Wisconsin Chapter of the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA-WI). “It’s another perfect example of fire sprinklers saving lives and property.”
In November 2014, the fire sprinkler system extinguished a fire, also in a dust collector. In August 2013, fire sprinklers extinguished a fire in an oven by the paint line.
“Not only do these fire sprinkler saves prevent closings that would result in revenue loss for the business, but also they prevent employees from potential layoffs due to closings and tax loss for the city of Fond du Lac,” adds King. “While this building has had the misfortune of repeated fires over the last three years, the occupants can rest assured that the fire sprinkler system will continue to protect them and their jobs.”
